Coinbase International Exchange has teamed up with digital asset custody provider Copper to launch off-exchange settlement services for institutional clients through the ClearLoop network. The integration comes as demand grows for secure and capital-efficient crypto trading solutions among professional investors.

Real-Time Settlement Without Exchange Transfers

The new partnership enables institutions to trade on Coinbase's platform while keeping assets in Copper's custody infrastructure. Using multiparty computation (MPC) technology, ClearLoop allows near real-time settlement without requiring funds to be moved onto the exchange. Currently available only with USDC, the service will expand to additional collateral assets soon.

——This addresses two major institutional concerns: counterparty risk and capital efficiency—— said a Coinbase spokesperson. Stablecoin protocol Ethena has been confirmed as the first launch partner for the integration.

Meeting Institutional Crypto Demand

The move follows surveys showing increasing institutional interest in crypto assets. 【83% of institutional investors】 plan to boost their crypto allocations in 2025 according to a March study by Coinbase and EY-Parthenon. Another report found 90% of institutions are either using or exploring stablecoins for payments.

Coinbase International Exchange, which launched in 2023, now offers over 150 listed assets with up to 20x leverage. The ClearLoop integration expands its institutional offerings, joining a network that already includes Deribit, Bybit and OKX.

Regulated Under Bermuda Authority

The service operates under Bermuda Monetary Authority oversight, reflecting the growing regulatory scrutiny of institutional crypto products. Copper CEO Amar Kuchinad called the integration "a milestone in digital assets' maturation" that provides institutions with faster, more secure settlement options.

As crypto adoption grows among professional investors, exchanges are racing to develop infrastructure that meets institutional requirements for security, compliance and operational efficiency. This latest move positions Coinbase to capture more of that lucrative market segment.
